Nihonbashi Takashimaya Incident Video Coverage

***UPDATE***

It seems as though Volks answer to their issue is to host the event again in May at Nihonbashi Takashimaya . This time give people numbers upon their arrival which will designate their place in line. This is how most Dolpas are run to avoid the scalping issue in the first place. Please see the announcement page for more information. We still do not know if the individual who purchased all of the first run preorders will have his orders filled or not.

As the Volks community awaits a response from the company concerning the Nihonbashi Takashimaya  incident, the news media in Japan has been swirling with coverage of similar incidents. Apparently at limited release events it doesn’t take much to provoke excited customers who are shunned due to scalping tactics. Below is a news segment addressing the issue of forgeigners -particularly from other parts of asia- coming to Japan to buy up limited stock of luxury brand items. Please be aware there is a fight scene in the middle of this segment and while unrelated to Volks, it is relevant when discussing the sales of limited items.

In the video below there is coverage of the huge sale at Nihonbashi Takashimaya  as well as a rather violent fight scene -unrelated- that occurred when Nike Supremes went on sale in Japan in Tokyo. In the latter incident chronicled Chinese fans who had been camping for hours where told they were not allowed to purchase the shoes due to the fact they were not in appropriate dress code for the event. What you see in the image is a security officer getting assualted for delivering the bad news. No one was seriously injured in the incident and the parties responsible for the violence were able to run and escape arrest. For more on this incident please watch the video below.

There has been much speculation as to why Volks has been silent and may continue to honor the sales. Some people say Volks makes their money either way so they will finish the sales, others say they want to avoid an incident like what happened at the Supreme shop in Tokyo. No one can say what will happen next but this will definitely be a story we will be watching and reporting on in the coming days.

A final video of the most lovely exhibition at Nihonbashi Takashimaya  which features Lorina II… to warm your heart and give you hope for her release at the next dolpa~

  1. Thanks for sharing this story. It’s heartbreaking to read about this sort of behavior. I’ve heard about it before in other markets, and of course I’ve heard of incidents in the BJD worlds before so I’m not really shocked, but this really takes the cake. Hope this doesn’t result in more stringent rules for international customers – still dreaming of welcoming a doll at Dolpa one day! – and that Volks will consider re-releasing Lorina II soon.

    1. It looks like there will a random number distribution at the entrance to prevent people from simply waiting in line. This method is employed at Dolpas as well to prevent scalpers from buying every. single. doll.
